Balance Tab

The Balance tab tracks what your cruise costs and what you've paid so far. It's most useful in the lead-up to departure, when you're chipping away at the final balance.

Summary

The card at the top shows:

  • Cruise price — what you entered in the Price step of the wizard.
  • Paid so far — the total of every payment recorded.
  • Left to pay — the difference.
  • Final balance due date — if you've entered one. Cruise Buddy shows a countdown on both this tab and the Overview tab so you always know how long you have left to pay.

Payments list

Below the summary is the chronological list of payments. The list is built from two sources:

  1. The deposit you entered on the Price step is added automatically as a payment with the note "Deposit".
  2. Any extra payments you record here as you pay them down.

Each payment shows the date, amount, and an optional note (e.g. "Final balance", "Loyalty discount", "Onboard credit purchase").

Recording a payment

Tap + to add a payment. You'll be asked for:

  • Amount.
  • Date — defaults to today.
  • Note — optional.

The summary updates automatically.

Editing the deposit

To change the deposit amount, Edit the cruise from the action menu and update the Price step. Cruise Buddy will replace the deposit payment to match the new value, keeping the rest of your payment history intact.

Editing or deleting a payment

  • Tap any payment to edit its amount, date or note.
  • Swipe a payment to Delete it. The summary recalculates.

Final balance due countdown

When a final balance due date is set, Cruise Buddy calculates a countdown and surfaces it in two places: on this tab's summary card and on the Left to pay tile on the Overview tab.

The countdown text adapts as the date approaches:

SituationText shown
Due date is in the future"X years, Y months & Z days until balance due" — only non-zero components appear, so "2 months & 14 days until balance due" rather than "0 years, 2 months & 14 days until balance due"
Due today"Balance due today"
Due date has passed"Balance due date passed"
No due date set(countdown is not shown)

The duration is calculated in calendar months and days, not just raw days — so "1 month & 3 days" means one calendar month plus three days, rather than 33 days.

To set or change the due date, Edit the cruise from the action menu and update the Final balance due date field in the Price step.

Currency

Cruise Buddy stores amounts as numbers without a currency symbol. The display follows your device's locale, so amounts are formatted as you'd expect on your phone.
