Installing Cruise Buddy
Cruise Buddy runs in your web browser, so you can use it straight from app.cruise-buddy.app without installing anything. Installing it is still worth the few seconds it takes:
- It opens from its own icon, full screen, like any other app.
- It is one tap away when you're at the port or on board with a patchy signal.
- Browsers are much less likely to clear an installed app's storage. Safari in particular clears a website's stored data after seven days without a visit, which on a long cruise is a real risk.
- On iPhone and iPad, reminder notifications only work once Cruise Buddy has been added to the Home Screen.
There is no app store involved. Installing adds the same web app to your device, and it keeps itself up to date.

iPhone and iPad
Use Safari:
- Open app.cruise-buddy.app.
- Tap the Share button.
- Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen, then Add.
Open Cruise Buddy from the new Home Screen icon from then on. You may need to sign in once more the first time you open the installed app.
Android
In Chrome (or most other Android browsers):
- Open app.cruise-buddy.app.
- Tap Install on this phone on the card Cruise Buddy shows, or open the browser menu and choose Install app or Add to Home screen.
Mac, Windows and Chromebook
In Chrome or Edge, look for the install icon at the right of the address bar, or open the browser menu and choose Install Cruise Buddy (Chrome) or Apps → Install this site as an app (Edge). On a Mac, Safari can also add it to the Dock with File → Add to Dock.
The install card
On a phone, Cruise Buddy shows an Install Cruise Buddy card until it has been installed. Tap × to dismiss it; it comes back after a week if you still haven't installed. The same help is always available in Settings → Install.
Protecting local storage
Settings → Install also shows a Browser storage card: how much space Cruise Buddy is using, and whether the browser has granted it persistent storage. Tap Protect local storage to ask the browser not to clear Cruise Buddy's data when space runs low.
If storage is nearly full, the card warns you. Sync, then remove downloaded files you no longer need from this device.
If a browser does clear Cruise Buddy
Nothing is lost that had already synced. Sign in again and enter your recovery code, and your cruises download again.
Shortcuts
Once installed, touch and hold (or right-click) the Cruise Buddy icon for a shortcut straight to Add cruise.
