Ship Details

When you assign a recognised ship name to a cruise, Cruise Buddy can show details about the ship — class, year built, capacity, godmother, length, gross tonnage, and (where bundled) deck plans.

Opening the ship screen

There's no top-level "Ships" tab. The ship detail screen is reached from links inside a cruise:

• The Overview tab shows the ship name; tap it to open the ship.
• The Edit cruise flow → Basics step → Ship name picker links each result to a preview of the ship.

Internally the URL is /ships/<ship name>.

What you'll see

The ship screen is organised into fact sections — each section groups related facts. Common sections include:

• At a glance — class, cruise line, year built.
• Capacity — passengers, crew, decks, cabins.
• Dimensions — length, beam, gross tonnage.
• Heritage — godmother, maiden voyage, refit dates.
• Data source — where the bundled facts came from.

The exact set of facts depends on what's available for the ship.

Deck plans

If the ship has bundled deck plans, you'll see a button to open the Deck Plans viewer. The viewer is the same as the one reached from the cruise's Overview tab and defaults to your cabin's deck.

When a ship isn't found

If the ship name on the cruise doesn't match any ship in Cruise Buddy's bundled list, the ship screen shows a "Not in our reference list yet" message. The cruise itself works as normal — you just don't get the bundled facts or deck plans.

If you'd like a ship added, tell us which one and which cruise line it belongs to.

Where the data comes from

Facts and deck plans are bundled inside the app — they don't need a network connection. They're sourced from public references (the cruise line's own marketing materials, ship registries) and curated by hand. The Data source card at the bottom of each ship screen credits the source.
