Conditions

The Conditions tab shows weather and marine forecasts for the port (or for the ship's likely position, on a sea day). Forecasts are fetched from Open-Meteo, a free weather API, and cached on your device so the forecast still appears if you open the tab offline.

When forecasts appear

Public forecast services typically only publish reliable data for the next 7 days. To avoid showing meaningless numbers months in advance, Cruise Buddy hides the forecast until the cruise is close:

Forecasts will show from 2 days before departure.

Once you're inside the window — or already on the cruise — Cruise Buddy refreshes the forecast automatically about once per day.

Port days

For a port day with a known location (latitude/longitude), the Conditions tab shows:

  • Temperature — high, low, current.
  • Conditions — sunny, cloudy, rain, etc., with a matching icon.
  • Wind — speed and direction.
  • Precipitation — chance and millimetres.
  • Sunrise and sunset times for the port.
  • Marine data where available — wave height, wave direction, sea surface temperature.

If Cruise Buddy doesn't have a location for the day yet (you've entered a port name but not coordinates), open Edit day and either pick the country or geocode the port to get coordinates.

Sea days

On a sea day Cruise Buddy uses the surrounding port days to estimate where the ship will be, then fetches a marine forecast for that point. You'll see wave height, wave direction and sea surface temperature, plus weather where the day's path crosses a coastline.

If Cruise Buddy can't place the ship — for example, a sea day with no surrounding port days — the Conditions tab shows a placeholder explaining why.

When forecasts fail

If the forecast service is unreachable or returns an error, the tab shows the last known good forecast (if any) plus a banner explaining the failure. Cruise Buddy will retry automatically the next time you open the app or come back online.

Privacy

Cruise Buddy sends only the latitude and longitude of the day to Open-Meteo. No cruise, account or device identifiers are sent.
